Duke Clinical Research Institute
Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) exists to develop and share knowledge that improves the care of patients around the world, through innovative clinical research. To accomplish this goal, the DCRI utilizes quantitative methods, including design, collection, structure, aggregation, and analysis of medical information. Since the DCRI recognizes that improving medical practice is not an isolated activity, and that medical practice knowledge should be shared, the DCRI collaborates in research activities with other centers around the world. Collaborating research centers are located in Canada, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, and the United Kingdom; participating sites in clinical trials have been located in more than 60 countries. The diversified mix of research studies in varying therapeutic areas reflects the clinical practice in Duke Medical Center, and includes a healthy balance of health services research, health policy research and clinical trials that vary by type, phase and sponsor.
Duke University Department of Psychiatry
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences' primary mission includes clinical care, teaching and research, with the ultimate mission of improving the understanding and treatment of patients with illness. This entails developing an understanding of the causes of the illness from a variety of perspectives - psychological, social and neurobiological - then developing effective treatments and preventive measures using evidence based strategies, and helping to implement these strategies. The Department houses a variety of disciplines besides psychiatry, including medical psychology, social work, nursing, toxicology, epidemiology, molecular biology and neuroscience. This varied staff enables the Department to work effectively toward improving the care of patients with illness.

Governor's Institute on Alcohol & Substance Abuse, Inc.
The Governor's Institute on Alcohol & Substance Abuse is an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organization that supports linkages among educational programs, professional organizations, tertiary care facilities, clinics and hospitals, treatment facilities, consumer groups and the substance abuse field by participating in coalitions and state planning efforts. As a neutral coordinator of resources, it serves as a clearinghouse to bring more research findings into clinics and other treatment settings and more information about treatment effectiveness into the classroom.
Substance Abuse Services - Division MH/DD/SAS
The Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services provides leadership in the planning, development, and organization of a statewide system of alcohol and other drug services.DMH/DD/SAS coordinates and communicates policies and strategies that educate, encourage, and empower individuals, families, organizations, and local communities to respond proactively to alcohol and other drug prevention, intervention, and treatment issues.
