edu2work – Preparing North Carolina’s Addiction Workforce of the Future

For twenty years, the Governor’s Institute on Substance Abuse has worked together with local, state and national partners to become a leader in the substance abuse community. The Governor’s Institute is consistently recognized as an innovative leader in fighting substance abuse and promoting the health of the public. Through statewide partnerships to enhance prevention and treatment programs, the Institute has improved education, research and communication in the field and changed lives in the process. The goal is to expand the Institute’s footprint and expertise beyond the state lines of North Carolina. Expansion of funding beyond the current sources is needed in order to meet the following goals:

Priority Areas

  • Integration of SA prevention, early identification, and treatment services with primary health care
  • Expansion and improvement of the workforce to increase access to high quality substance abuse and mental health services
  • Increased uptake of proven and cost-effective prevention and treatment interventions that improve quality and decrease cost
  • Improved access to high quality behavioral healthcare for military service members and veterans
